On April 9th, 1940, Nazi Germany invaded Denmark. Despite warnings, the Liberal Danish Government refused to mobilize or prepare defenses, until it was too late. These same Liberals also had gutted their National Defence. Denmark fell in six hours. Simultaneously, on April 8th to 9th, 1940, Nazi Germany attacked Norway through the Fiords, with a Battle Fleet led by the Heavy Cruiser Blucher. Oscarsborg Fortress, commanded by Colonel Birger Erikson, sank the Blucher, and engaged the other German Warships. The Germans turned back. Eriksen is credited with giving the Liberal Parliament, and the entire Norwegian Royal Family, time to escape. The Norwegian Military was not allowed to mobilize when needed, and was severely incapacitated due to budget cuts. It should also be noted, that both Countries were given Non-Aggression Pacts, personally signed by Adolf Hitler. Much like the Document touted by Chamberlain. Useless! After the War?
