Africa, the EFF has spoken. After South Africa's 2026 Local Government Elections (2–4 November), Julius Malema's party released a long statement. Here is what matters most. The EFF admits the national picture honestly. Provisional results show about 1.8 million votes (6.26%), down from 2.4 million (10.31%) in 2021, moving the party from third to fourth place. Malema calls it "a setback, not a defeat." But on the ground, the story is different. ➡️ 37 wards won, up from 19 in 2021, with 30 brand-new gains ➡️ First-ever EFF ward councillors in the metros: two in Johannesburg, one in Buffalo City, one in Mangaung ➡️ Nkomazi: vote nearly tripled from 20,321 to 58,684 ➡️ Lekwa-Teemane: vote doubled, and the EFF now holds four of seven wards ➡️ Madibeng, Marikana: three wards won ➡️ Vote share increased in 48 municipalities ➡️ North West grew from 3 wards to 10, and Mpumalanga from 0 to 7 The statement also carries a strong political message. The EFF says it will take stock ward by ward and urges all progressive forces to come together, declaring "it is either we unite or perish." It also accuses right-wing forces of benefiting from the post-2024 GNU arrangement. These are the EFF's own positions and allegations. For the South Africans who opened their homes and gave their votes, these ward wins show real trust where councillors are held accountable every day. Malema ends with a vow: forward against all odds, with 2029 in sight.
