Today I chaired the Joint Azimio Council and NEC meeting, where we continued building a broader, stronger and united opposition committed to restoring constitutionalism, the rule of law and good governance. That commitment does not end at our borders, and it does not end where power feels threatened. It is why we condemn, in the strongest terms, the harassment and intimidation of Burundian nationals in Kenya. Our brothers and sisters from Burundi are part of the East African Community, and they deserve dignity, not suspicion. Kenya must remain a good neighbour and honour the spirit of East African integration. It is also why we will not allow goonism to become the new normal at home. We are aware of plans by the Ruto regime to deploy goons to disrupt Linda Mwananchi this Sunday, and we condemn this unreservedly. Every Kenyan has a constitutional right to assemble, associate and express themselves peacefully, a right we will defend, whether it is being denied to a Kenyan in Nairobi or a Burundian guest in our midst.
