It reminds you where you come from, and why you carry what you carry. Today's message spoke to leadership as service; the call to walk in righteousness, to do justice not as a virtue we admire from a distance, but as something we practice daily, even when no one is watching. I was moved by the congregation, by a fellowship that has not thinned with time. It is this kind of faith that steadies a person when the road gets long. Micah 6:8 says it best: "What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." I have carried that verse with me for years, in public life and in private.
