We talked for about a month. I asked her to send photos of herself with other soldiers, and she sent a picture of herself holding my name, but it looked fake. We communicated on Hangouts. When I asked for a video call, she said the webcam was being fixed. When I asked her to call me, she said soldiers were not allowed to have phones. She then began asking for money, claiming soldiers were not allowed access to their own bank accounts, which I later discovered was a lie. She said she was stationed at a base in Iraq. When I checked, I found out there were only British soldiers there, not American ones. Another lie. She became demanding, constantly asking when I would send more money so she could leave the base. She said $1,200 was needed for a ticket, which I sent. After that, she demanded an additional $3,000, saying the $1,200 was only for paperwork and the rest was for the plane ticket. I repeatedly asked to hear her voice or see her on webcam, but she could do neither. I even emailed her supposed Sergeant asking for the money to be returned and received no response.
